About Us
We are Pat and Leslie Stoffal a small breeder located in Southern Idaho.
At Snake River Dachshunds, our passion is raising happy, healthy Miniature Dachshunds that become beloved members of the family. What started as a love for the breed 20 years ago has grown into a small breeding program focusing on quality, temperament, and preserving the unique charm of the Dachshund breed.
Our Dachshunds are raised in our home as part of our daily lives. They are loved, socialized and given plenty of attention from the very beginning. We believe that socialization and a nurturing environment help our puppies grow into confident, affectionate companions.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of the "wiener dog" or a newcomer to the breed, breeding Dachshunds is an art form that balances genetics, health, and a whole lot of personality. Here is a look into the world of breeding these low-riding, high-spirited companions. The Low-Down on the Breed Dachshunds are far more than just a unique silhouette. Originally bred as fierce hunters in Germany, they were designed to dive into badger holes—hence their long bodies and sturdy, paddle-like paws. Breeding them today requires a deep respect for that working heritage while prioritizing their role as modern family members. Variety is the Spice of Life One of the most exciting (and challenging) aspects of Dachshund breeding is the sheer variety. Breeders typically specialize in one of three coat types: Smooth: The classic, sleek look. Longhaired: Elegant and often a bit more "chilled out" in temperament.Wirehaired: The "wild child" with a beard and eyebrows to match their spunky attitude. These all come in Standard and Miniature sizes, creating a complex puzzle of genetics to manage. "Doxies" is a 24/7 job. From the moment they are born, these puppies require: Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS): To help them grow into confident adults. Socialization: Introducing them to different sounds, textures, and—most importantly—people. Fun Fact: The name "Dachshund" literally translates from German as "Badger Dog" (Dachs = badger, Hund = dog). Why We Do It: Breeding Dachshunds is a labor of love. It’s about the smell of puppy breath, the sight of a "zoomie" across the living room, and the satisfaction of placing a healthy, happy puppy with a family that will cherish them for the next 15 years.
